How it works:
You'll be added to our database of approved cleaners and given access to our scheduling app to be able to reject or accept new clients that;
-
you can travel to every week,
-
suits your requirements,
-
fits the hours you want.
You'll be able to view your schedule and keep track of when you have bookings.
You will also have access to our app messaging, to contact us when needed.
New Clients:
-
Some clients ask to meet and interview a cleaner before deciding on the right cleaner for their requirements, if they request this we will let you know.
-
You should make a good impression to encourage the client to keep you as their long-term regular cleaner, and make sure you arrive at the agreed time.
-
You can discuss their requirements, see where products/equipment are kept, and to check what they want can be achieved in the hours booked.
-
The client might decide you're not suited. If this happens, don't take it personal.
-
If the client wants to change the booked hours they must contact us before you do different hours than booked. Our insurance only covers the hours booked.
The work:
-
The work is general house cleaning to a high standard and you will clean for the same regular clients each week.
-
Sometimes clients book a one-off deep clean, these are at a higher hourly rate.
-
You will always use the clients cleaning products and equipment.
-
You will mostly work on your own but occasionally with other cleaners.
-
Having your own transport is an advantage as you need to get to and from clients homes at the times agreed every week.
Your Hourly Rates
The hourly rates that clients agree to pay you directly:
-
Regular Weekly/Fortnightly: £14/hour
-
One-off deep cleaning: £17/hour

How you're paid:
You're paid directly by the clients by cash or bank transfer, on the day of the clean. They will decide which method suits them best.

One-off cleans and temporary cover can be good if you want a few more hours and earn extra money.
Being Self Employed
The perks and flexibility of being your own boss, choosing what work you want, at times that suit you. No more going to endless recruitment interviews for jobs you hate with long hours at minimum wage.
Make the leap, do the work you enjoy, built around your lifestyle and earn yourself a real living.
Becoming self-employed is really easy.
Self-employment just means that you must tell HMRC each year how much you've earned, then if there's any tax to be paid they will tell you how much. Everyone has a tax free allowance, but even if you don't earn this much you must still report it.
Keeping records of your earnings and expenses is important.
You are responsible for your own income tax and national insurance contributions payable in respect of all payments made to you by clients.
As a self-employed person you need to be registered with the HMRC and obtain a UTR (Unique Tax Reference).

Customer care
A few points on what the clients will expect from you:
Always;
-
be polite, positive and never use foul language.
-
arrive on the agreed day, at the agreed time.
-
clean thoroughly to a high standard.
-
keep products & equipment organised, and put everything securely away after cleaning.
-
take great care of the clients home and property to avoid accidents.
Never;
-
take anyone with you into the clients home.
-
share or discuss personal details of a client with anyone other than with LHC, including names, phone numbers, address or any other personal information.
-
change the day or time without asking the client if it is convenient. Being reliable is extremely important.
-
leave products or equipment unattended that could cause a hazard.
-
rush to complete cleaning tasks, as this could lead to injury or accidents.
Pets
-
The clients inform us if they have pets. They may also add additional details on the booking form. If the client hasn't provided us these additional details please ask them, and respect any requirements of their pets.
-
Always be pet friendly and treat them with care.
-
Don't leave products or equipment unattended that could harm pets.
-
If needed, politely ask if the pet could be secured in a separate room whilst you complete the cleaning.
-
If you can't be around pets, or certain pets (e.g. because of an allergy), always check the details we send on the Scheduling App before accepting, then you can avoid accepting clients that aren't suitable.
Client Keys
-
Some clients will give you a key to their home, You are responsible for these keys.
-
If you finish with the client, or the client request return of their keys, you must return the keys to them promptly in person. Do not post them in the mail.
-
Never label the keys with an address.
-
Before leaving the clients home, check all windows and external doors are secure, and follow any instructions the client has provided.
Insurance
-
Whilst you're working for our clients we provide important insurance cover in case of accidents.
-
It's important that you let us know of any changes with the hours you work for our clients so that we can adjust the cover.
-
Although we have insurance, we expect you to take extra care in the client's home at all times. The client would have to pay an excess, and of course be unhappy. This insurance is to cover major rather than minor accidental damage.
-
Always use the correct products and equipment provided by the client. The insurance doesn't cover for damage when using products and equipment not provided by the client, or by the use of incorrect products or equipment. Bleach products are forbidden for health and safety reasons. Damage caused by Bleach is not covered by our insurance.
-
If an accident did happen, be honest and let the client know immediately, and then inform us of what has happened. Delayed claims could be refused.
Holidays, Time off & Sickness
-
If you have an illness, you'll need to let the Client know and ask them if they are happy for you to reschedule, or for them to contact us if they want a temporary replacement cleaner.
-
If you are going on holiday or need time off, we ask that you give at least 2 weeks notice. Let the clients know as soon as possible, they will have the option to skip the weeks you're away, reschedule the cleans, or they can contact us to introduce a temporary replacement cleaner.
-
Do not take a scheduled day off without discussing it with the client.
Client Holidays & Sickness
-
Some clients continue to have their cleans during a holiday and use it as an opportunity to book extra hours for a more thorough clean whilst they're away. If they want to book additional hours they must contact us first to update the insurance cover.
-
If the client is ill, ask them if they'd like you to do the missed hours another day.
Leaving:
-
We understand circumstances can change, if you can’t continue with any or all clients, please be honest with us.
-
Please give as much notice as possible, at least 2 weeks, so that we have time to introduce a replacement for the clients.
-
The clients expect a continuous service. Giving plenty of notice helps with this.
-
Please remember our agreement does not allow our clients to continue with a cleaner for at least 12 months after terminating the agreement, including one-off clients and regular clients. This also applies if it is you that leaves.
Cleaners FAQs
How can I get more work? New Clients will be offered to suitable cleaners via the Scheduling App to accept or reject. It's best to have notifications on to avoid disappointment. Please only accept suitable clients you can travel to each week. You will also have access to our app messaging.
What if I finish early? To avoid accidents, never rush cleaning tasks, take your time to do a thorough job. If you have completed all tasks listed/asked for before the set cleaning time is up, and the Client is at home, please ask them what else they would like you to do, or even suggest tasks to them. If they are not at home, review your cleaning and see what else is needed. Areas that might have been missed, such as door handles, stair rails, skirting, and kitchen cupboard doors for example. There is always something to clean, and usually the time booked for a client’s home is realistic.
What if a client asks to increase or decrease their regular hours with me? If a Client requires a change of hours, advise them to contact us and we will update their plan. We provide insurance against accidental damage when you are cleaning, but this is only valid for the hours we know of, so never do more hours than booked until we update their plan.
Do I meet a client before the first clean? • Some clients ask to meet and interview a cleaner before deciding on the right cleaner for their requirements, if they request this we will let you know. • You should make a good impression to encourage the client to keep you as their long-term regular cleaner, and make sure you arrive at the agreed time. • You can discuss their requirements, see where products/equipment are kept, and to check what they want can be achieved in the hours booked. • The client might decide you're not suited. If this happens, don't take it personal. • If the client wants to change the booked hours they must contact us before you do different hours than booked. Our insurance only covers the hours booked.
What is my hourly rate and how do I get paid? • The clients will pay you directly on the day of the clean, by cash or bank transfer. The client will decide on what method of payment they opt for. You are not able to dictate this method or be paid in advance for any clean. • Always provide them with a receipt for payments. We recommend you buy a small receipt book. This looks more professional than a notepad. • We like to keep things simple and transparent for our clients, and for the introduced cleaners, the current hourly rates clients agree to pay you are listed above.
Do I need my own insurance? Local Home Cleaners Ltd has insurance so you do not need your own. Obviously, we expect you to be very careful when cleaning to avoid any accidental damage to the clients property. The client will have an excess to pay, and they may also cancel the service or request a change of cleaner. This is to cover major rather than minor accidental damage. Bleach products are forbidden for health and safety reasons. Damage caused by Bleach is not covered by our insurance. The insurance doesn't cover for products or equipment that haven't been provided by the Client.
What happens if a client cancels their service? Clients will cancel from time to time due to a change in circumstances. The client would give us one months notice, we would let you know when the notice is given. This will give you time to fill the hours with other clients.
Do I need my own transport? It's not essential to have your own transport, but it does make it easier. You need to be sure that you can get to the clients on time every week, regardless of the transportation method. When new clients are offered on the Scheduling App we will tell you the postcode location, you should only accept clients you can get to on time every week.
What should I wear? You should wear comfortable clothing that is suitable for cleaning. We recommend taking a second pair of shoes to prevent walking outside dirt into clients homes.
Do I take my own products and equipment? No, never take your own products or equipment. You will use the clients own products and equipment, if they are low on products please let them know and politely tell them if you can't complete some tasks without it. They should then replace the products for your next clean. We do recommend you take your own gloves and any necessary PPE. Remember to always use the correct products that the client has provided. The insurance doesn't cover damage caused by using products or equipment that haven't been provided by the Clients. Bleach products are forbidden for health and safety reasons. Damage caused by Bleach is not covered by our insurance.
